Meeting 11th Dec 2009, Lombards, Corscombe. Agenda Apologies Review of Progress The Project WHAT/WHO Actions Needed Review Common Lane Project Plan Public Meeting Formation of Friends of Common Lane AOB/DONM

Common Lane Renaissance A healthy heritage project What makes Common Lane Special? Common Lane, one of the most ancient routes in Britain, it has now become impassable, it’s surface damaged , deeply rutted and poorly drained. A historical route linking the Harrow Way with the Wessex Ridgeway its route is packed with history, starting by the site of an ancient Roman Villa in Halstock. Travelling 2 miles through a Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, passing sites of Nature Conservation and Scientific Interest to the village of Corscombe. A lost route, in a remote landscape , containing a wealth of flora and fauna. Aims of the Friends of Common Lane To restore the Lane as a sustainable recreational resource, whilst safeguarding its environmental, historical and economic value. Creating a visitor attraction, which is free, accessible and open all year. Promoting the local economy. Balancing the needs of a working lane for landowners and restoring a ancient way into the community and national route network. How this will be achieved? Creating a partnership between the Friends of Common Lane, Dorset District Council and Sponsors Led by the Friends of Common Lane Group to develop the route with a recreational and educational focus. Supporting the Highways Authority by clearing the route to allow the surface and drainage to be restored in an environmentally friendly way. Establishing a long term partnership to ensure that Common lane will be sustained for generations to come.
