Warm – up 12-10-2008 Notebooks! ***Rewrite these statements to make them true.*** The main idea is always the first sentence in a paragraph. Words that signal time include: first, second, now, during, after that, or finally. Words that signal facts include: I believe, I think, in my view, they claim, argue, or disagree.

Please write today’s objectives 12-9-2008 Today’s Objective: I will be able to apply reading strategies when reading a Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science lesson from a textbook.

Reading in the Content Areas Social Studies, Science, & Mathematics NOTES: Reading Strategies for Mathematics A. Preview the title and headings on the page to see what math concepts will be covered. B. Find and read the goals or objectives for the lesson. These will tell you the most important points to know. C. Read explanations of the central concept carefully. Sometimes a concept is explained in more than one way to make sure you understand it. D. Study any worked-out solutions to sample problems. These are the key to understanding how to do the homework assignment.

Reading in the Content Areas Social Studies, Science, & Mathematics Yes! We are working through this section in a backward order. NOTES: Reading Strategies for Mathematics Complete Activity Reading Strategies for Science Reading Strategies for Social Studies* * For social studies only write the notes provided in part “C.” Then write: See Notes for Strategies for Reading A Textbook.

Working with computers Today we will be typing our poems for the literary fair. Please note that it may be difficult to create a concrete poem using the computer, so you should leave that one for last. Computer Rules You are only to work on the assignment provided. If you are in any other program other then the one you are supposed to be using, the computer will be revoked and you will receive a zero. You are to treat the computer with respect. If you initially damage it in any way, you will be held responsible. You may print only after I have approved your poems. Please do not type your name. You will write it on the back.
