Thank You, Ms. Vanessa Alvarado Ms. Vanessa’s Class News A Note from the Teacher Dear Parents, Welcome to back to Key Academy and to 3rd grade! I hope you all enjoyed your summer. I am very excited to have a wonderful year full of fun and learning! This is my 2nd year teaching at KEY Academy. I taught 1st grade in Hayward last year. This is my fourth year teaching. This year we are learning language arts through the curriculum Journeys and math through GO Math. Your child will also be able to grow and learn in science, social studies, art, foreign language, and Physical Education. Homework reminder We will begin homework on Monday, August 21st. Homework will be assigned and collected daily. Homework will consist of grammar, spelling, and math. Your child should also be reading a minimum of 30 minutes per night. You will need to sign a weekly reading log. Dates to remember 8/28 Homework Club 3:15PM-4:15PM M-TH 8/29 Back to School Night 6:00PM-7:00PM I am looking forward to working together to make this a successful school year!! Thank You, Ms. Vanessa Alvarado Ms. Vanessa’s Class News Behavior In 3rd grade we will be having a lot of fun. We also like to show respect for the class, each other, and the school. If your child is being disrespectful or not following the class rules there will be a discipline system. The first warning will be a private verbal warning between your child and the teacher. The second warning will be a loss of privilege, such as recess. The third warning will be parent contact. If your child continues they will be sent to the office and the last resort will be a conference with child, parent, teacher, and principal. I have included a School Guideline Policy that must be signed by you and your child. Grading Policy Grades are based on total points earned (sum of test, quiz, homework, labs, projects, group work, citizenship, extra credit, etc.) compared to the maximum possible points.     Quarterly grades will be calculated by averaging term grades.  Final grades will be calculated by averaging quarterly grades.    I am looking forward to working together to make this a successful school year!!
