WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT? A committee that discusses safety issues Administrators and workers just like you join forces and cooperate

EXAMPLES: Help when you’re concerned about the lack of a guardrail When a fire exit is blocked Dock lights are always burned out Come up with ideas to reduce hazards

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF Learn who your joint health and safety committee members are Identified by hardhat decals, name tags, special colored safety headgear

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF Intended to be a cooperative venture Labor and personnel issues don’t belong at the meetings Committee members are not “safety cops”

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF Continue reporting safety hazards and problems to the supervisor Long-term safety issues go to the safety committee

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF Here’s what else you can do: Learn the safety policies and procedures for your workplace and follow them Actively participate…because you have experience, you can make valuable suggestions Become active on the joint health and safety committee

Final Word Your workplace health and safety committee does such important work. Consider volunteering next time there’s an opening.
