WHY HOW WHAT

Quickwrite: What do you think is NOT rigorous instruction? The TLF is the rubric that illustrates Rigorous Instruction from the planning stages through reflection Quickwrite: What do you think is NOT rigorous instruction?

TLF and Rigor

What does rigor mean and how do you know when you see it?

Costa’s Levels of Thinking: Our way of defining and discussing rigor!

Costa’s Levels of Thinking: Our way of defining and discussing rigor! Purpose: To better understand the content, it is essential that students learn to think critically and ask higher level questions. Being familiar with Costa’s will help students make connections, as well as, understand the level of rigor that tasks are asking for.

LOTS: Lower Order Thinking LEVEL 1 THE BASICS IN THE BOOK Audience will share out a level 1 question about the baby

HOTS: Higher Order Thinking LEVEL 2 The Book + you

HOTS: Higher Order Thinking LEVEL 3 APPLY AND EVALUATE OUTSIDE THE BOX

LOOKING AT questions/OBJECTIVES/TASKS Identify whether the following are level 1, 2, or 3 questions/objectives/tasks: Pick two characteristics that best describe a “good student”. Explain why. Students will be able to define and identify the stages of the water cycle. How can we develop a fitness plan that will help more students fight obesity? Which is the most important part of the story? Explain why. Students will combine main ideas together to internalize learning from notes. Students will use substitution to solve a system of two linear equations.

TLF and Rigor

How do we do this in the class??

Name That Tune: A Song For Teachers; You Have Made A Difference On the note card, write 1 question about the lyrics or theme of the song you just heard. **DO NOT LABEL THE LEVEL ** Pass your card to the left. With the card you get, label the level you think the question is and level it up or down! Level up means they need to alter it to make it the next level..if a level 3 then they it down…we will pass the cards a couple of times
