Your child will be participating in Counselor Corner Halloween is approaching fast and the children are already excited about their costumes. I would like to give your child the opportunity to bring a pumpkin to school, dressed as their favorite story book character. This is an exciting way to discuss characters from different stories. We will have them on display in the hallway starting Tuesday, Oct. 25 and you may pick them up Friday, Oct. 28. Please do not puncture the pumpkin, as this will cause it to rot. Please paint, add glitter, place a wig on it, etc. Also remember that your child will need to be able to carry it to school and back home, so do not choose a really big pumpkin. The character needs to be a child-friendly character, no mean, scary, or characters with weapons. This project is optional and you do not have to make one. The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) will be administered this Spring 2017. For elementary, the STAAR measures the statewide curriculum in Reading at Grades 3-5; Writing at Grade 4; Mathematics at Grades 3-5; and Science at Grade 5.  Your child will be participating in the following STAAR testing: Tuesday, March 28th 4th grade WRITING 5th grade MATH  Wednesday, March 29th 5th grade READING   Monday, May 8th 3rd & 4th grade MATH 5th grade MATH (retest)  Tuesday, May 9th 3rd & 4th grade READING 5th grade READING (retest)  Wednesday, May 10th 5th grade SCIENCE **Due to the importance of the STAAR test, please make sure there are no scheduled appointments or no early pick-ups on these days. Students do have the tendency to rush when they know they will be picked up early. For more information about the STAAR program, visit the TEA Student Assessment website at http://tea.texas.gov/student.assessment/staar/. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, Dina Menn, Counselor/Testing Coordinator Y.E.S. College Day! To help encourage our students to talk about college and all of the possibilities, we will have college day on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Wear your favorite college shirt!
