DBQ #2 Issues

Document Use Many students are still simply summarizing the documents. Look at what you wrote after you first reference a document. Do you connect back to the question? How does this document show how the reform movement did (or did not) expand democratic ideal? Many essays move right to the next document and never make an attempt to connect back to the question (the expansion of democratic ideals) You need to connect back to the question.

Topic Sentences The first sentence of a body paragraph (topic sentence) should clearly address the question and be the main point of analysis of the paragraph. This helps set the direction for your analysis. Compare the following: Abolition was a rising issue during this time period. Despite its increasing influence, abolition was ineffective in expanding democratic ideals as slavery still existed throughout this time period.
