Collins Correctional Facility ICS presents Collins Correctional Facility

Collins Correctional Facility Mission Statement: Today’s society has captivated the hearts of many young adults along with older generations. Nevertheless, among these individuals there are also those who have undergone a troubled childhood and have come face to face with the criminal justice system. In order to prevent future problems and create a prosperous society it is an asset that we focus on the importance of rehabilitating our prisoners. Our mission is designed to help educate and provide opportunities for our fellow inmates in order to provide a better life when prisoners become released from our prison. Not only that, while at our prison, inmates will have the opportunity to gain an education and go to classes which will be in the best interest of the prisoner. The architect layout of our prison will be designed to have high quality security to prevent any break outs or escape. We will include cameras on every corner and surround our fences with electric rods.

For every 5 prisoners there will be one guard (1:5) Basic Information All male prison Maximum security 400 inmates For every 5 prisoners there will be one guard (1:5)

How is Collins Correctional Facility Different? We focus on: The Four Goals of Sentencing Productive labour for economy Education Character development Fixing the problems unique to each prisoner

Denunciating the Crime Keeping prisoners in confinement for several weeks from arrival allows time for self reflection on crime, adjustment period. Allows time for specialists to evaluate the prisoner in terms of cooperation and level of danger so they may find appropriate job placement. Specialists use this time to identify physical or psychological trigger leading to crime based on theories by Sigmund Freud, Chicago School of thought, Social Disorganization Theory and Opportunity Theory.

Deterrence Taking responsibility for ones actions and accepting the consequences builds character and works in prevention. Criminals are required to research the crime which they have committed with strong relation to the damages it causes emotionally, socially and economically. To ensure that the criminal feels responsible for his actions, victim/criminal conferences are strongly encouraged, under safe supervision, so the victim/victims relatives or friends have a chance to personally express their feelings about the criminals wrong doings. Criminals also have an equal opportunity to tell their side of the story. The idea is to create an understanding on both sides. Criminals who are unwilling or are misbehaving during these conferences are not permitted to continue the sessions but must instead view a pre-recorded victim statement made several times a month or year..

Protecting Society Collins prison facility uses state-of-the-art security features to ensure no riots and escapes. All prisoners are ‘tagged’ with a monitoring device that are GPS locaters, and provide electro-shock when attempting an escape or engaging in riot activity. Guards are armed with weapons that cannot operate unless held by owner. Micro chipped finger rings carry the guards signature and are transmitted to the weapon. This prevents the guards weapons from being used on themselves. Collins facility has many physical countermeasures to prevent breakout such as high walls with barbed wire and sniper towers at all corners of the outer walls.

Rehabilitation Once the criminal has truly accepted responsibility for wrongdoing then the process of making a better person can begin. An important aspect of the Collins Correctional Facility is returning the tax payers money back into the economy by having prisoners participate in productive work. The placement of the work would depend on the prisoners experience, education and level of threat. Examples could include construction, farming, cooking.

Rehabilitation Continued Religion and meditation is strongly encouraged to find inner peace and is provided in programs by the facility. A healthy body ensures a healthy mind. Physical activity is a daily requirement to ensure health of prisoner. Cardiovascular and weight training programs provided. Education courses with real credit value provided for high school and college courses. Training for trades are encouraged to be taken as they are educative, useful for future jobs and can be used for placement in daily jobs.

Infirmary Our prison will also include an infirmary to ensure good health in our prisons. Not only do we have an infirmary, inmates will be sent for daily check ups as well.
