(A) Aβ immunostaining in the frontal cortex of 1‐, 2‐, 4‐ and 8‐month (mo)‐old female transgenic mice. Note the early onset of mostly small and compact amyloid deposits at 2 months. (Another batch of mice was analysed at 6 weeks of age and amyloid deposits were already present at this age; results are not shown.) At 8 months of age, amyloid deposits cover virtually the entire neocortex, are larger in size and are surrounded by diffuse amyloid. (B) In the hippocampus, amyloid deposits develop later. Similar to the neocortex, initial deposits are small and compact. Scale bars, 200 μm.
