Mapping of MIH_Link_SAP Current draft defines MIH_Link_SAP as a SAP provided by the link layer technologies Given that most link layers (802.3, 802.11, etc) are already implemented: It is unlikely for implementers of link layers to provide such SAPs It is more likely that 802.21 implementer have to map native link layer SAPs to the MIH_Link_SAP Functionally, it is better to formalize this with a mapping function in the architecture 21-07-xxxx-00-0000
Suggested Architecture The general reference model in Fig. 4: Add this 21-07-xxxx-00-0000
Suggested Architecture The addition will affect all link layers specific reference models in Sect 5.5. For instance, Fig. 6 would be: Add this 21-07-xxxx-00-0000
Link SAP Mapping Function The proposed Link SAP Mapping Function: Is not within the scope of 802.21 It is merely defined as a formal approach for link layer implementers to map existing link layers SAP to the defined MIH_Link_SAP Example will be the work on the MAC State Convergence layer by 802.11u It also corresponds to the suggested mappings in Annex L 21-07-xxxx-00-0000
Error Code for MIH_Link_SAP Some MIH_Link_SAP cannot be easily mapped with existing link layer SAPs. Eg: Link_Going_Down in 802.16 Link_Event_Rollback in 802.16/3GPP/3GPP2 Possible resolutions: provide new error code in MIH_Link_SAP to indicate that the implemented Link SAP Mapping Function does not have a mapping for the requested MIH_Link_SAP provide a new MIH_Link_SAP for MIHF to query the Link SAP Mapping function the set of MIH_Link_SAP that are implemented 21-07-xxxx-00-0000
