CANCER JEOPARDY

Cancer Jeopardy Rules Five teams (~5/6 members per team) One representative per question (rotated each ?) To answer, must perform 3 push ups or other denoted exercise, then write (legibly) the answer on team whiteboard and hold above head; first team to do so with correct answer gets the monetary value and gets to pick new category, if no one gets the answer correctly, team that last guess correctly gets to pick new category There are 2 Daily Doubles (you can choose how many points you want to wager, up to that point value, without going over) There are several bonus questions--these questions will be addressed ONLY to the team on that specific question. Final jeopardy will be done as a team... each team must wager a certain monetary value (without going over their current status) Team with the most money at the end gets bonus points on Quest

This term refers to an abnormal ball of cells WHAT IS A TUMOR

This term refers to someone who studies and treats cancer. WHAT IS AN ONCOLOGIST

What is meant by the term “permanent remission”? BONUS! For an additional 100 points: What is meant by the term “permanent remission”? This term refers to a period of time when a person is considered symptom-free of cancer WHAT IS REMISSION

This term refers to the spread of cancer WHAT IS METASTISIS

How long can a latency period last? This term refers to the period of time when the cancer develops to the time when signs and symptoms occur BONUS! For an additional 100 points: How long can a latency period last? WHAT IS LATENCY PERIOD

The treatment whose most common side effects typically include hair loss and nausea WHAT IS CHEMOTHERAPY

The treatment referring to physically removing a tumor WHAT IS SURGERY

This treatment of cancer can also be seen as a cause of it WHAT IS RADIATION

The type of surgery most commonly used for skin and mouth cancers (often called “freezing”) WHAT IS CRYOSURGERY

This explains why cancer is considered treatable, NOT curable WHAT IS BECAUSE CANCER CELLS NEVER TRULY DISAPPEAR—THEY JUST LIE DORMANT

Using any sunscreen with less than this SPF is putting you at greater risk for developing skin cancer WHAT IS 15

Cancer-causing chemicals are also known as… WHAT ARE CARCINOGENS

WHAT ARE GENETICS AND ENVIRONMENTAL TRIGGERS Cancer is a non-communicable disease, meaning it is caused chiefly by ____ and/or ____ (NOT germs!) WHAT ARE GENETICS AND ENVIRONMENTAL TRIGGERS

WHAT IS THE SIZE, SHAPE OR DNA/FUNCTION At least 1 of these 3 things could change in a “normal” cell to cause cancerous cells to develop WHAT IS THE SIZE, SHAPE OR DNA/FUNCTION

TRUE OR FALSE: The risk of developing cancer increases with age WHAT IS TRUE

(It could be true, but never a 100% guarantee) TRUE OR FALSE: Having a family history of cancer means that you have a 100% chance of developing cancer WHAT IS FALSE (It could be true, but never a 100% guarantee)

This is the “cancerous” type of tumor BONUS! For an additional 100 points: What is a tumor that is considered “non-cancerous” called? This is the “cancerous” type of tumor WHAT IS MALIGNANT

Cancer cells M______ and M________ DAILY DOUBLE! Cancer cells M______ and M________ WHAT IS MUTATE AND MULTIPLY

Cancer cells spread in the body through ______ and ______ WHAT IS BLOOD AND LYMPH

This is the test that a doctor typically performs to determine if you have cancer WHAT IS A BIOPSY

WHAT IS “GET IT CHECKED OUT” Many warning signs of cancer often resemble that of a cold or the flu, but still… a good motto to live by in regards to cancer is, “If something doesn’t feel or seem right...“ WHAT IS “GET IT CHECKED OUT”

WHAT IS A HIGH FIBER, LOW FAT DIET This type of “diet” is best when trying to prevent many types of cancer, especially colon cancer WHAT IS A HIGH FIBER, LOW FAT DIET

WHAT ARE VITAMINS C AND E Cruciferous vegetables, brown rice, green tea, and these two vitamins are ideal to consume in higher quantities to prevent cancer WHAT ARE VITAMINS C AND E

These are the ABCDEs of melanoma (skin cancer) detection DAILY DOUBLE! These are the ABCDEs of melanoma (skin cancer) detection WHAT ARE ASYMMETRY, BORDER, COLOR, DIAMETER, AND ELEVATION
