Functions Unit Project Sample By Ms. Leonard and Ms. Anderson

Real World Situation I went to the store to buy candy. They sold candy for $0.75 per pound. If I had $5.00, how many pounds of candy could I buy?

Linear Function Y = .75x Y represents the cost in dollars(how much money I have) X represents the number of pounds of candy.

Table Pounds (x) Cost (y) 1 .75 2 1.5 3 2.25 4 5 3.75 6 4.5 7 5.25 8 9 1 .75 2 1.5 3 2.25 4 5 3.75 6 4.5 7 5.25 8 9 6.75 10 7.5

Graph

Analyzing the Graph Rate of change: .75 Initial Value: 0 Our graph is increasing We could find the slope from our equation (y=.75x) or by picking two points and using the formula to find slope (slope formula: m = [y1 - y2] / [x1 - x2]).
