Use of renewable energy in the Provinces of Treviso headquarters Maurizio Tufaro Treviso Paving the way for self – sufficient regional Energy supply based on sustainable concepts and renewable energy sources

The Province of Treviso headquartes When The Province of Treviso decided to allocate and renovate an existing building complex, it was agreed that alternative sources of energy would be utilized. A biomass tecnological station (chipped wood), a 1050 m² photovoltaic plant were installed on a field, which together with the biofuel plants would be used to heat and produce energy to the buildings. And to minimize heat loss, a building automation system (BAS) was installed. Energy and cool/heat to 100,000 m³ of buildings (14 buildings with a net surface of m² )

SPECIFICS & NETWORK The area of Province includes only one technological station for: heating/cooling production; an energy cogeneration plant (bio-diesel) the centre of electrical energy transformation (transformer). a nearby area a PV plant of 260 kW power peak has been realized. There are a district heating and a district cooling (exclusive net) in all area and for each building. The needed heat power is generated by 2 biomass boilers (chipped wood) of 750 kW power each, and these generators can be replaced (back up) by 1 natural gas boiler of 1 MW power. The needed cool power is generated by 2 gas chillers (water cooled) that are of 1,5 MW cool power (centrifugal compressor) and 0,9 MW cool power (screw compressor). The chillers needed 2 cooling tower of 3 MW cool power The net of district heating and cooling is about 5 km long. The pipes are of steel insulate with polyurethane foam in PHED scabbard. Every building has 2 air heating/cooling units and a piping air network with air diffuser for indoor comfort The regulations of climate conditions have made with electronic units; this tools act by web control (Ethernet plus lon-bus) and local control by digital exchange and thermostat. The digital exchange and the local thermostat are included in the home automation system of Province and regulate the level of heating, cooling and lighting, human presence based.

SPECIFICS Consumption energy data of Province: Cipped Wood: 3500 mc / year (about MWh / year) Natural gas: mc / year (about 600 MWh / year) Electric uses: MWh / year Production energy data of province: Electric production (PV): 260 MWh / year (Future) Products of cogeneration system: MWh electric / year and MWh heating / year. This plant was installed (include all costs) by the ESCO who manage the building of Province. The PBT depend of ESCOs fiscal and national found facilitation. Emissions and energy savers: CO2 (heating): 470 Tons/year CO2 (electric - enclosed cooling): 1046 Tons/year (40% performance of thermal machines for electrical production-National level).

FURTHERMORE: EPC at the PT has let to a thoroughly examination of the buildings and an action plan for technological interventions to be implemented at the schools.

Two examples on interventions INSTITUTE Interventions for the exploitation of renewable energy sources Technological requalification interventions Interventions for the remote reading of energy carriers interventions on water consumption Construction of a solar PV system Creation of an air conditioning system to geothermal heat pump Construction of a cogeneration plant or traditional biomass Trasformation for operation with natural gas Replacement of boilers Remaking piping pipes in thermal power plant and substations Completion of the temperature control system Installation of thermostatic valves on radiators Interventions for the remote reading of consumption of solid fuel or gas Interventions for the remote reading of electricity consumption, inst. of equipment x- meter Installing timed taps of hot and cold water terminals A.
