Behavior Support Team Process & Progress Monitoring Shannon Dobson Michelle Beekman WS/FCS

Review our team; subsections

Referral Process Collaborate with District EC Program Directors (gate-keepers of the referral) REQUIREMENTS: All students must have FBA and BIP prior to referral Offer monthly Help Sessions (for teachers with need of assistance in strategies or development of FBA and BIP) Review our process; show our flowchart; and referral packet Talk about help sessions briefly; collaboration with PBIS and AU team “weed out” ----determine students that just need classroom managed based strategies; related services; etc

PRC-29 Support Services Direct Services Internal Help Sessions/PLTs Baseline Observations Continuous Support for Teachers and Student Continuous Observations/Consults Social Skills Sessions Meetings Internal Help Sessions/PLTs Onsite/District wide Trainings

Review existing FBA/BIP and behavior goal Progress Monitoring Review existing FBA/BIP and behavior goal Once we accept a student on our caseload this is our 1st steps: Review the FBA and BIP to determine methods/strategies selected to teach the new skill and the problem behavior *We recently revamped our forms to make them more “user friendly” to help teachers walk through the process of the FBA and BIP Progress monitoring is a huge part of our new forms- required

Data Collection Tools Some of our frequent tools: CICO more long term individualized; DBR; scatterplots; intervals, TOAD/frequency Link to website Our goal is to make the use of interventions easy and simple for the teachers----because what we know---the less invasive the tool the more likely they will use it…we understand the school day is full of requirements…and the need to actually TEACh….all of our forms can also be utilized by TA’s… We encourage them to select a 10-15 minute period and collect data during this period At least 3x per week to effectively monitor the use of interventions

Summarizing Data with EXCEL

Summarizing Data Using Excel WHY? Provides a visual for teachers, parents, students and other staff Aides in summarizing goals/monitoring progress (baseline vs. interventions) Simple & Concrete Monitors increase or decrease Our goal is to monitor the progress of students once interventions are in place—ideally we desire for the teachers to take this responsibility (however, this is not always the norm) Using excel makes it easy for use to clearly depict a picture of a students progress in the classroom Compare pre-referral ; pre-interventions to POST (baseline and interventions being used) Easier to reach compliance with teachers and administrators ---because the data PROVES

BAR LINE CIRCLE Graph Type When to Use: Used to “tell a story” Frequency counts of observed behaviors Used to “tell a story” compares levels of specific behaviors or responses compares possible setting events or antecedents Not ideal for depicting changes over time LINE Trials Used to view changes in behavior over time or across various conditions Targets trends for interventions Compares levels for each specific date, session, intervention Ideal to monitor intervention efforts CIRCLE Intervals Used to show how a part of something relates to the whole Shows percentages effectively Add forms here data and where they match

GRAPHS Student with a daily reinforcement sheet; summary of data per month Marked trends Drives IEP goals; progress monitoring Identified there are 2 areas of primary concern: completed all work; kept body in check Bar graphs---helps to easily view multiple behaviors

GRAPHS Initial phases----would eventually move to line graph; with two weeks it is easier to display the percentage of time toward weekly goals

GRAPHS Interval Data summarized during 15 min observational period Circle graph helps to Summarized data from CICO

GRAPHS Exit student Student considered for EXIT of PRC-29

GRAPHS We use graphs to preview discipline…especially for our students considered for referrals to alternative placement or to return to home schools *If we are not successful with having teachers collect data we result to using Powerschool data to help determine if interventions are being used
