Navy DOD SkillBridge Programs: DoD Skillbridge allows transitioning Service members to gain valuable civilian job skills training from employers, including apprenticeships and internships, beginning up to 180 days before discharge. Doing this transition, this program can offer a critical bridge to a new civilian career. Participation in this program also guarantees Service members an interview upon completion. Service members must have approval from their change of command. Employer must offer a high probability of employment. Service members continue to receive their military pay and benefits while TAD.

Navy Requirements of SkillBridge Programs: a. Have completed at least 180 days on active duty and are expected to be discharged from active duty with an Honorable discharge, including General discharge (under Honorable conditions), within 180 days of the date of commencement of participation in such program; b. Be separating from the Navy and have sufficient time remaining under their contract to complete the program prior to established separation date; c. Have successfully passed their most recent physical fitness assessment; d. Be recommended for advancement or promotion and retention on most recent evaluation or fitness report; e. Have completed their Transition Goals, Plans and Success requirements; f. Air Force SkillBridge Programs: Air Force Skillbridge, also known as JTEST-A1, consists of Career Skills Program (CSP), such as apprenticeships, on-the-job (OJT) training, job shadowing, employment skills training, and internships; offering skills training opportunities to Airmen (officers and enlisted) preparing to transition from active duty to civilian employment. Career Skills Program is a transition program falling under the umbrella of the Air Force Directorate of Force Development, Learning Division (AF/A1DL).

Air Force Requirements of SkillBridge Programs: Airmen (officers and enlisted) must be within180 days of approved retirement and separation to participate in a Career Skills Program (CSP) Airmen participation is dependent on unit/command and mission requirements. They may apply to participate in a CSP through self-nominations while attending TGPS or go directly to their Base-level Education and Training Office Base-Level Education and Training Section Chiefs (E&TS) are responsible for the overall management of the base CSP and will provide the daily execution of the program The unit/squadron commander has the approval authority to participate in the CSP program. The commander may terminate the Airman participation in the program based on mission requirements
