Miami Dade County Public Schools Voter Registration Drive

Annually, M-DCPS registers approximately Our Proven Results Annually, M-DCPS registers approximately 9,000 new voters.

Voter Registration Important Dates Spring 2019 Registration Window: April 1 – 26, 2019 Registration Pick-Up: April 29 – May 1, 2019 Specific pick-up date to be emailed to school contacts later.

Student Eligibility In order to register to vote, a student must be: 1. Be a U.S. citizen. 2. Be a Florida resident. 3. Be at least 18 years old (you can pre-register to vote at 16 years old, but you’ll need to wait until you’re 18 years old to vote). 4. Have never been convicted of a felony (unless your civil rights have been restored). 5. Have never been legally judged ineligible to vote, for either mental incapacitation or crime.

Who can vote in the U.S.? Only citizens can vote. If you are not a citizen and register to vote, it is a felony. This can seriously affect your future naturalization process to become a citizen later. DO NOT REGISTER TO VOTE IF YOU ARE NOT A CITIZEN.

Who can register to vote in the U.S.? Only U.S. citizens can register to vote. Do not vote if you are not a U.S. citizen, even if someone tells you that you can.

S c e n a r i o They denied her citizenship application. Amelia has her green card. When she got her driver's license, someone told her that she could register to vote. She registered to vote. In November, she voted in the election. Later that year, she applied for citizenship. At her citizenship interview, the USCIS officer asked if she had voted. She said yes. They denied her citizenship application.

VOTER INFORMATION IS PUBLIC RECORD Voter Information as a Public Record Voter registration information is public record in Florida with a few exceptions. Information such as your social security number, driver’s license number, and the source of your voter registration application cannot be released or disclosed to the public under any circumstances.  Your signature can be viewed, but not copied. VOTER INFORMATION IS PUBLIC RECORD Your voter registration information may not be publicly disclosed or made available, provided: You are or become a participant in the Attorney General’s Address Confidentiality Program for victims of domestic violence and stalking. See section 97.0585(3) and sections 741.401-741.465, Florida Statutes. Contact the Attorney General’s Office’s Bureau of Advocacy and Grants Management at 850.414.3300 for instructions on how to become a participant.

VOTER INFORMATION IS PUBLIC RECORD You submit a written request to each agency that may have your information such as your address, photo, and date of birth. However, you must fall within one of the statutorily designated classes of high-risk professionals. Please refer to the Public Records Exemption Request form and follow instructions to submit the completed form to the Florida Department of State. Public information can find its way onto the Internet or websites by individuals or entities that obtain public records from the State. Once information is in the public domain, you will need to contact the owner or administrator of third-party sites in order to get the information removed.
