About Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) II Technical cooperation programme. Funded by European Union and German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (FMPWH). Aim: Enabling and fostering investments in renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) (incl. solar mini-grids). Budget: EUR 33M – EUR 20 M (EU) and EUR 13M (BMZ). Implementation period: 2018 – 2020.

Current Situation Single (main) source of most of relevant electrification data freely available does not exist Data quality (accuracy, completeness, date of acquisition) and format(s) from different sources is not constant Officially collected data are distributed within multiple government institutions. Socio-economic aspect of data sets is not always aligned with situation on the field.

Data Types Required Where and how people live: Settlement extents Socio-economic condition within each settlement (population, industry, educational and health facilities, etc.) Are settlements part of bigger cluster or a group? Source of electricity within settlement (mini-grid, interconnected grid, distribution grid, solar home system, generator only)? Where is power network precisely located: Transmission/Distribution Network asset location and attributes Generation Existing mini-grids and interconnected grids.

NESP Approach Settlement Mapping / Power Network Tracking Analysis – pre-classification of settlements (mini-grid, interconnected mini-grid, solar home system) Deploying on-site surveys in classified settlements Revalidating pre-classification and updating where necessary Publishing data through web-gis portal
