The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde: Identity L.O: To understand the importance of identity. CHALLENGE: To be able to find language that helps create Utterson’s identity. Identity will become a very important theme within the novel.

Things are not always as they seem… The images you have just seen are all linked to the theme of: IDENTITY Tricky: What is identity? Trickier: Why might people present themselves differently in certain environments? Trickiest: Do you think that it is tempting to create a different persona online? Why? Pick one of the following questions and answer in your books. EXT: Can you think of any situations in which a secret identity would be beneficial? If so why/ why not?

Meet Mr Utterson. Mr. Utterson the lawyer was a man of a rugged countenance that was never lighted by a smile; cold, scanty and embarrassed in discourse; backward in sentiment; lean, long, dusty, dreary and yet somehow lovable. What are our first impressions of Mr Utterson- what kind of man do you think he is? What words support your opinions?

First Impressions- ‘Story of The Door’. Nomination Reading. Rules: You may read from 3 sentences up to one page. You cannot nominate people who have already read. Pages 5- 7 Write down any words that you do not understand into the back of your books.
