Aim: How did Dalton view the atom? Do Now: 1. Vocabulary: Discrete- separate and distinct Indivisible-unable to break apart Atom-unit of matter 2. Draw a particle diagram depicting the formation of water. (How many colors do you need?)

Aim: How did Dalton view the atom? Atoms of one element are different than those of other elements. Elements differ from each other in that each element has atoms of a unique mass.

Aim: How did Dalton view the atom? Atoms are the unit of chemical combination. They are never created, destroyed, or subdivided during chemical changes. They are indivisible.

Aim: How did Dalton view the atom? When atoms combine, they do so in simple whole number proportions. Compounds are formed and chemical changes occur with the union or separation of atoms.

Aim: How did Dalton view the atom? All elements are composed of discrete particles called atoms Each atom of an element is identical to every other atom of that element. Elements are composed of atoms which are identical in mass. (Is that true?)
