The Public Health white paper - a district council perspective Ian Miller Wyre Forest District Council 14 February 2011

What District Councils do that is most relevant to public health Strategic housing role – working with registered social landlords, enforcing standards in private sector, fitness of housing, tackling fuel poverty, energy efficiency etc (direct delivery role in Redditch) Environmental health and licensing – now part of Worcestershire Regulatory services Leisure services – often delivered by private companies or trusts

Where next? We want to contribute to making a success of the NHS reforms in Worcestershire We welcome the recognition of district councils’ role through involvement in the Health and Well-being Board for Worcestershire We need to look at what resources we should place into a genuinely pooled budget
