Welcome to the PRMS On-Line Athletics Parent Information Meeting. Principal – Linda Miesner Assoc. Principal – Dave Webb Assoc. Principal – Kevan O’ Athletic Director – Stan Watchous Counseling and Athletics Admin. Asst. – Monica Perbeck Questions? – Monica is a great place to start @ 913-856-3651 or perbeckm@usd231.com

Purpose , Priorities and Philosophy. Purpose – To start communicating so your son or daughter can have the most enjoyable, rewarding and productive season possible. Priorities – 1. Safety of all participants and spectators; 2. Learning and skill development of participants; 3. Successful participation of all participants; 4. Fun for all participants. Philosophy – To compete with schools of comparable status and capability in our league and region for the maximum educational benefit of the PRMS and our opponents’ student-athletes in a spirit of friendly, sportsmanlike competition. Our coaches will always attempt to win within the framework of our philosophy.

Why we do things the way we do at PRMS. We are members of the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) and the Frontier League. Both organizations require their members to operate within parameters that help keep interscholastic activities safe, fair and in perspective. So if you have ever wondered why we have the number or length of competitions we do, or who is eligible to play or coach etc., it is because we are members of these governing bodies. Without such membership we would be unable to schedule competitions for our teams.

Principles of the KSHSAA. Student participation in interscholastic activities is a privilege, not a right; Participation in interscholastic activities promotes academic achievement; Participation in interscholastic activities promotes good citizenship, improves life skills and builds character; Interscholastic activities should be based on and should promote honesty, integrity and sportsmanship.

KSHSAA Rules to keep in mind: It is a rules violation to participate on a team outside of PRMS during the PRMS season for that sport (even fun runs during Cross Country and Track); It is a rules violation to participate on a team outside of PRMS that has more than half of your PRMS team’s members on it at any time during the school year. (There are exceptions for girls’ and boys’ basketball during the school year Check with Mr. Watchous for details). These restrictions are lifted from the Saturday before Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Concussion information Please read through and sign (with your student-athlete) the concussion information included with the physical and waiver packet that each participant must turn in to the office before their first practice in any activity. Physical and waiver packets are available on the USD #231 website or in the PRMS office.

Transportation to practices and competitions Participants are required to take school-provided transportation to practices and competitions; Parents/Legal Guardians: Please sign your student-athlete out with their coach if you are transporting them home after an “away” competition. The coaches will have transportation release forms available for you to sign after “away” competitions. Parents/Legal Guardians: If you want your student/athlete to ride home with someone other than you after an “away” competition you must provide a written, signed and dated consent.

Parent/Coach Communication We have PRMS Parent/Coach Communication philosophy pamphlets available in the PRMS office or we can e-mail you one. The pamphlet outlines our philosophy of parent/coach communication. We use it as our starting point for any concern involving parent/coach communication. Please do not attempt to confront a coach with a concern before or after a practice or competition. These can be busy, stressful, emotional times for both coaches and parents and communication at these times is not likely to result in resolution. To communicate with a coach, please call between 7:50 and 3:15 during the school day and schedule an appointment to speak with them.
