Warm up Tuesday January 18, 2011 There are three types of government systems that determine citizen participation. Explain each of them in detail (democracy, oligarchy and autocracy). Then explain in detail the three types of governments that distribute power (unitary, confederation and federal).

Describe the two predominant forms of democratic governments: parliamentary and presidential.

Essential Question How do the unitary, confederation, and federal government systems distribute power? Explain how governments determine citizen participation: autocratic, oligarchic, and democratic.

Today I will learn how various forms of government operate because, as a society increases in complexity and interacts with other societies, the complexity of the government also increases.

Group Task With your group you will review the items on the next slide. Categorize the information correctly in the following three categories: (1) Autocracy (2) Oligarchy and (3) Democracy. Use your time wisely!
