Background In the 2012 Blueprint:  opportunity for an EU action interesting option to address water scarcity untapped potential in many situations lack of consideration in water management, lack of harmonized standards  opportunity for an EU action Study to develop and asses policy options Public consultation in Summer-Autumn 2014  confirmation of the interest Several discussions in CIS WG PoM and SCG Publication of the Roadmap (September 15)

Guidance on planning and management Integration in WFD planning and implementation Clarification on others directives (UWWTD, ND…) Building on MS experience (case studies) To be developed in the CIS framework (ad hoc WG?) by June 2016 SCG consultation on a draft outline in Spring 2015 Discussion of a first draft in WG PoM on 15/10

EU quality standards Priority uses: agricultural irrigation and aquifer recharge JRC to develop a technical proposal by Autumn 2016 Expert WS in June 2015 (docs available) Regular feedback to SCG (and any related CIS WG) Consultation of the independent scientific committee on health and environmental risks (25/9/15 onwards) Opportunity to make these standards binding will be subject to an Impact assessment

Drafting process for the guidance document - Proposed way forward agreed with WG PoM

Proposed timeline 1st October 2015: release of draft 1 15 October 2015: Discussion in WG PoM on draft 1 Circulation to WG Chemicals and Groundwater  comments expected by 6/11 10 November 2015: SCG opinion on the drafting process Early December 2015: 1st meeting of the DG on draft 2 Early February 2016: 2nd meeting of the DG on draft 3 Spring 2016: consultation of CIS WG on draft 4 May 2016: Opinion of SCG on draft 5 regarding possible endorsement by WDs
