Test Procedure of Deployable Systems for Pedestrian Protection Submitted by an expert from the Republic of Korea Test Procedure of Deployable Systems for Pedestrian Protection 1st Deployable Systems for Pedestrian Safety Task Force Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Korea Transportation Safety Authority, Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute

Structure of Test Procedure 1. Prerequisite 2. Verification 3. Headform Test

Prerequisite HIT(Head Impact Time) - How to get HIT (simulation or physical testing,…) - HITs of relevant pedestrian statures - Simulation conditions (posture, friction, human model…) Supportability - Displacement by body loading - related to the definition of deployable systems Other prerequisites - All relevant pre-requirements(LT, HT, HTD…)

Verification TRT(Total Response Time) - Physical Verification Test (test conditions: impactor, location, velocity) - How to measure TRT(camera, signal,…) Deployability - Deployment Performance (related to other issues and verification test conditions) Others

Headform Test Test Procedure Determination - Deployment Failure → Static Test at the un-deployed position - TRT ≦ minimum HIT(6yo) → Static Test at the deployed position - minimum HIT(6yo) < TRT ≦ HIT of 5%F/50%M/95%M → Combined Test - TRT > maximum HIT → Dynamic Test

Headform Test Static Test - Static Test at the un-deployed position → follow the headform test procedure of the regulation - Static Test at the deployed position → follow the headform test procedure of the regulation with the deployed system Dynamic Test - Synchronization → how to synchronize the test equipment with the deployable system of test vehicles - Others

Headform Test Combined Test - Follow the procedure of Dynamic Test up to ‘HIT=TRT position’ - Follow the procedure of Static Test at the deployed position in other positions - HIT & WAD linear graph
