How connection helps mental health

What is mental health? Feelings Thoughts Our thoughts and feelings are our mental health and we all have mental health

Are Felix’s thoughts and feelings always the same? How do they change? Our mental health is in a constant state of change – sometimes we feel good and sometimes we feel low. We call this riding the ups and downs – this is normal.

The Five Ways to Wellbeing These behaviours directly influence our mental wellbeing

When we connect with somebody we are forming a relationship When we connect with somebody we are forming a relationship. The best relationships make us feel safe and happy – we call these healthy relationships. Healthy relationships are important for our wellbeing. That is why it feels good to have friends.

What helps us to make friends? Helpful Taking turns Sharing Being kind Listening Having fun Unhelpful Being unfair Hitting Saying mean things Boasting Telling tales

Whole School Challenge Getting to Know You Ask children at playtime or back in class about these statements. Use them as a conversation starter by asking the other person ‘tell me more’.
