Set Notation and Set Operations Honors Precalculus Mrs. Agnew January 4, 2017

Essential Stuff Essential Question: How can objects be collected and arranged? Essential Vocabulary: Set Interval Notation Set Builder Notation Union Intersection Complement

The Real Number System The real number system includes: Real Numbers Rational and Irrational Numbers Integers Whole Numbers Natural Numbers

Set Notation A set is a collection of objects. Three ways to write a set are List Notation Set Builder Notation Interval Notation Examples

Set Operations Intersection: The intersection of two sets includes all of the objects the sets have in common. Union: The union of two sets includes all of the objects that are in either set or in both sets. Complement: The complement of a set includes all of the objects that are not in the given set. Universal Set: The set of possible values that could appear in an intersection, union, or compliment. Examples
