RNA Transcription Target: I will be able to explain the purpose and process of Transcription RNA Transcription: the process of making mRNA from a section of DNA. The section of DNA (gene) is coding for a specific protein. DNA cannot leave the nucleus, but mRNA can. Transcription is how DNA gets the instructions to the ribosome. Codon: 3 bases on mRNA that code for a particular amino acid. Pg. 83
Transcription Step-by-Step DNA section unwinds and unzips. RNA Polymerase (an enzyme) bonds the nucleotides (sugar+phosphate+base) of mRNA to the complimentary strand of DNA. A bonds to U, T bonds to A, C bonds to G, and G bonds to C. mRNA stops when a stop codon is made. DNA rewinds to form the double helix. mRNA leaves the nucleus.
