RAFT What does it mean?

R……Role A……Audience F…….Format T…….Topic

RAFT is an acronym that stands for:   Role of the writer. What is the writer's role: reporter, observer, eyewitness? Audience. Who will be reading this writing: the teacher, other students, a parent, people in the community, an editor? Format. What is the best way to present this writing? In a letter, an article, a report a poem? Topic. Who or what is the subject of this writing: a famous mathematician, a prehistoric cave dweller, a reaction to a specific event?

Your Assignment: Write a letter to Mrs. Vining or Mrs. Salmon, your teachers, telling us about you. You can write from your perspective OR from the perspective of your mom or dad. The letter should tell us about you and what your parent thinks we need to know about you. You will need to apply the RAFT writing technique.

Think about the acronym: Role - - What is your role? Will you be yourself or will you be one of your parents? Audience - - Who is your audience? Mrs. Salmon & Mrs. Vining Format - - What is the format? Friendly Letter Topic – - What is the topic? YOU!
