Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices 2017 – Raising the Bar! Re-Recognition

Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Recognition Program Recognition is awarded for a Four Year Period Assumes appropriate submission of Annual Reports An agency may apply for Re-Recognition any time after submitting their third annual report, but at least six months prior to the expiration of their Recognition.

Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Recognition Program To get full benefit of full four years, an agency should plan to have their Re-Recognition on-site as close to the end of the four year period as possible. Make sure the program manager has been through the program training!

Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Recognition Program Re-Recognition Process All 168 file folders are prepared and are reviewed on-site by on-site assessors. Files require new Document Submission Form Policy (if required) New Proofs of Compliance No Electronic Submission Includes all standards which are in effect at the time of the on-site.

Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Recognition Program Re-Recognition Process: Application – download and submit to TPCA (at least 6 months before end of Recognized Status) Contract - New Contract File development (Must comply with all standards!) Mock Assessment or Initial Compliance Review, or pass phone interview Schedule On-site after Mock or ICR or phone interview

Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Recognition Program Very Important!!!! New On-site Scheduling Process Limited number of On-Site Dates Must be finished with Mock Assessment or ICR, or pass phone interview before selecting date. Will be cut-off deadline for Conference at end of February each year.

Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Recognition Program Very Important!!!! If lack of available on-site date pushes you past 4th year anniversary, automatic 90 day extension is approved. (May not be Re-Recognized at next Annual Conference if after end of February.)

Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices Recognition Program 70 Agencies Have Completed Re-Recognition Most common error? Forgetting to re-apply for another 4-year contract! Second most common – Not training a new program manager (if there’s a change) and generally not understanding the process.
