2016 Maintenance Innovation Challenge Interrogative Diagnostics Solution (IDS) PROBLEM STATEMENT Currently aircraft fault detection and fault isolation (FD/FI) diagnostics is a painfully long process. “Replacement until fixed” is the nominal solution to avionics problems “No Trouble Found” returns of perfectly functional black boxes costs the DoD millions of dollars annually What technology exists to qualitatively reduce MTTR and false failure rates on today’s platforms? BENEFITS IDS is a system that facilitates: A “System of Systems” FD/FI Capability Uses real time data from the system and Fault Logs Establishes Accurate/Repeatable Diagnostics Maximizes detailed BIT data and applied algorithms Transforms system BIT data into discrete Mx actions Minimizes Costly False Removals WRA Isolation and/or wiring in Multi WRA subsystems BIT data is cross correlated to validate results and not as a single point reference Eliminates Time Consuming Troubleshooting Accomplished via automatic means Can be integrated with any Mx documentation TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION Incorporates system engineering knowledge into a defined IDPS SW architecture (through XML) to create an accurate, repeatable, expert- maintainer solution for all skill levels Based on system data, not operator interpretation Performs FD/FI beyond basic fault code interpretation Procedures are written in XML, interpreted by the diagnostic task processor, and can be simulated, executed in a lab against real equipments, or on actual AC for testing and validation Enables automation of procedures Significantly reduces test times Enables the diagnostic procedures to be updated real time Updates can be made without affecting system software GRAPHIC Maintenance Action Copyright © 2016 Lockheed Martin Corporation
