Session Objectives Identify possible on-ramps and off-ramps students may choose to reach career goals Be able to explain possible outcomes of diverse educational levels to students Provide subject matter expertise about potential transfer institutions and occupations

California Income Mobility 425,000 blue collar manufacturing jobs lost since 1990 The gap between the top 10% and the bottom 10% of families has doubled since 1980 The decline in median wages in California is 3x that of the US overall (Lipson & Stern, 2018)

MJC Income Mobility Rate 14% of MJC parents are in the bottom income quartile 16% of MJC students whose parents are in the bottom income quartile make it to the top income quartile 2.2% Income Mobility Rate (Lipson & Stern, 2018)

Applied Associate vs. Bachelor’s Degrees (All credits articulate, but may not have value in the labor market) ADT   Applied Associate Degree Four Year Degree $75K Graduates, earns $40K as programmer.
