Letting the Light Shine at Home With Bishop Ronald Powell

"Go home" Mark 5:18-19 Living Bible (TLB) 18 So he got back into the boat. The man who had been possessed by the demons begged Jesus to let him go along. 19 But Jesus said no. “Go home to your friends,” he told him, “and tell them what wonderful things God has done for you; and how merciful he has been.”

“Go home” Luke 8:39 Living Bible (TLB) 39 “Go back to your family,” he told him, “and tell them what a wonderful thing God has done for you.” So he went all through the city telling everyone about Jesus’ mighty miracle.

It is in the home we need to have— 1. Our speech seasoned with the salt of grace, that we may speak sweetly— Colossians 4:6 Living Bible (TLB) 6 Let your conversation be gracious as well as sensible, for then you will have the right answer for everyone.

It is in the home we need to have— 2. Our manners tempered with the grace of courteousness, that we may act graciously— 1 Peter 3:8 Living Bible (TLB) 8 And now this word to all of you: You should be like one big happy family, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds.

It is in the home we need to have— 3. Our behavior toned with the godliness of chastity, that we may attract powerfully— 1 Peter 3:1-2 Living Bible (TLB) 3 1-2 Wives, fit in with your husbands’ plans; for then if they refuse to listen when you talk to them about the Lord, they will be won by your respectful, pure behavior. Your godly lives will speak to them better than any words.

It is in the home we need to have— 4. Our conduct tuned with the Word of God, that we may act consistently— Titus 2: 1-14

Titus 2: 1-14 1 But as for you, speak up for the right living that goes along with true Christianity. 2 Teach the older men to be serious and unruffled; they must be sensible, knowing and believing the truth and doing everything with love and patience.

Titus 2: 1-14 3 Teach the older women to be quiet and respectful in everything they do. They must not go around speaking evil of others and must not be heavy drinkers, but they should be teachers of goodness. 4 These older women must train the younger women to live quietly, to love their husbands and their children, 5 and to be sensible and clean minded, spending their time in their own homes, being kind and obedient to their husbands so that the Christian faith can’t be spoken against by those who know them.

Titus 2: 1-14 6 In the same way, urge the young men to behave carefully, taking life seriously. 7 And here you yourself must be an example to them of good deeds of every kind. Let everything you do reflect your love of the truth and the fact that you are in deed earnest about it. 8 Your conversation should be so sensible and logical that anyone who wants to argue will be ashamed of himself because there won’t be anything to criticize in anything you say!

Titus 2: 1-14 9 Urge slaves to obey their masters and to try their best to satisfy them. They must not talk back, 10 nor steal, but must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy. In this way they will make people want to believe in our Savior and God.

Titus 2: 1-14 11 For the free gift of eternal salvation is now being offered to everyone; 12 and along with this gift comes the realization that God wants us to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures and to live good, God-fearing lives day after day, 13 looking forward to that wonderful time we’ve been expecting, when his glory shall be seen—the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. 14 He died under God’s judgment against our sins so that he could rescue us from constant falling into sin and make us his very own people, with cleansed hearts and real enthusiasm for doing kind things for others.

It is in the home we need to have— 5. Our rule… ruled with the authority of Heaven, that we may behave consecratingly— 1 Tim. 3: 1-7

1 Tim. 3: 1-7 1 Timothy 3:1-7 Living Bible (TLB) 3 It is a true saying that if a man wants to be a pastor he has a good ambition. 2 For a pastor must be a good man whose life cannot be spoken against. He must have only one wife, and he must be hard working and thoughtful, orderly, and full of good deeds. He must enjoy having guests in his home and must be a good Bible teacher. 3 He must not be a drinker or quarrelsome, but he must be gentle and kind and not be one who loves money. 4 He must have a well-behaved family, with children who obey quickly and quietly. 5 For if a man can’t make his own little family behave, how can he help the whole church?

1 Tim. 3: 1-7 6 The pastor must not be a new Christian because he might be proud of being chosen so soon, and pride comes before a fall. (Satan’s downfall is an example.) 7 Also, he must be well spoken of by people outside the church—those who aren’t Christians—so that Satan can’t trap him with many accusations and leave him without freedom to lead his flock.

It is in the home we need to have— 6. Our office dominated with the beauty of faithfulness, that we may live blamelessly— 1 Tim. 3: 8-13

1 Tim. 3: 8-13 1 Timothy 3:8-13 Living Bible (TLB) 8 The deacons must be the same sort of good, steady men as the pastors. They must not be heavy drinkers and must not be greedy for money. 9 They must be earnest, wholehearted followers of Christ, who is the hidden Source of their faith. 10 Before they are asked to be deacons, they should be given other jobs in the church as a test of their character and ability, and if they do well, then they may be chosen as deacons.

1 Tim. 3: 8-13 1 Timothy 3:8-13 Living Bible (TLB) 11 Their wives must be thoughtful, not heavy drinkers, not gossipers, but faithful in everything they do. 12 Deacons should have only one wife, and they should have happy, obedient families. 13 Those who do well as deacons will be well rewarded both by respect from others and also by developing their own confidence and bold trust in the Lord.

It is in the home we need to have— 7. And our relations in life adjusted with the direction of the Spirit, that we may show we have received the Spirit fully—

It is in the home we need to have— Colossians 3:17 Living Bible (TLB) 17 And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, and come with him into the presence of God the Father to give him your thanks.

It is in the home we need to have— Colossians 4:1 Living Bible (TLB) 4 You slave owners must be just and fair to all your slaves. Always remember that you, too, have a Master in heaven who is closely watching you.

It is in the home we need to have— Ephesians 6:9 Living Bible (TLB) 9 And you slave owners must treat your slaves right, just as I have told them to treat you. Don’t keep threatening them; remember, you yourselves are slaves to Christ; you have the same Master they do, and he has no favorites.

It is in the home we need to have this Instruction Let us Pray
