Developing a growth mind set Resilience Developing a growth mind set

What is a ‘growth mindset?’ Pupils discuss the quotes: Outcome, to understand what the term ‘growth mindset’ means.

How do babies learn? Tutor group discussion led by prefects.

Watching Experiencing Listening Copying Attempting Trying Rank them in order from most important to least important

Babies want to learn! Children are not born with a fear of failure, we all learn it! Pupils could say when they have not wanted to try something or when they have been scared of getting something wrong.

Does this mindset apply to you? See if anyone has missed out on things in life because they were scared of failing.

Which statements do you think support a growth mindset? I love a challenge I like to improve my grades for me, not other people. I know I can do better if I try I can’t do it...yet Intelligence takes effort I like to get praise for the effort I put into my work I don’t like getting things wrong I like to do better than other people I can’t do it I would rather not try because then I won’t fail I like to get praise for my work Which of these statements supports a growth mindset?

Josh Waitzkin “The moment we believe that success is determined by an ingrained level of ability, we will be brittle in the face of adversity” JW Foundation Help students discover a creative, resilient passion for learning while embracing and overcoming challenges.

Studies have shown intelligence is not fixed! With a growth mindset you can improve your grades and Personal Learning Ethos. Of course, it takes effort on your part, it doesn’t happen by magic! Always think: “I can’t do it...yet”, “I haven’t reached my PI...yet”, “I haven’t improved a grade...yet.” The Power of Yet

Resilient How? I can remain focused and on task. I can set targets and I am able to practise. I have a positive attitude. I find interest in what I am doing. I do not give up! Resilient
