Figure 1 A Simplified Cartoon Illustrating the Trophic Relationships of the Benthic and Limnetic Stickleback Ecotypes and the Population Resulting from Reverse Speciation The thickness of the arrows indicates the relative consumption of each prey group. A morphological and ecological comparison revealed that after reverse speciation, stickleback were more similar to benthic ecotypes than to limnetic ecotypes. The placement of the reverse speciation fish on the horizontal, intermediate between the benthic and limnetic ecotypes but closer to the benthic reflects the morphology after introgressive hybridization.
