“Carl considers himself the Ali of tennis.” Allusion “Carl considers himself the Ali of tennis.”

Allusion An ALLUSION is a passing reference to a particular event, person, place, or experience, either direct or implied (includes historical, classical, mythical, biblical, or literary allusions).

Allusion Allusions connect literary works to a larger cultural heritage. They allow the writer to express complex ideas without spelling them out. Understanding what a literary work is saying often depends on recognizing its allusions and the meanings they suggest.

Allusion Identify the allusions & explain its purpose within the following statements: In 1963, a day in Dallas changed the course of our nation. The forbidden fruit of a day off school tempted me to fake sick to my parents. When he was accused of lying, Tim protested, “But I’m a regular George Washington”.

Allusion Examine the allusions already presented within Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream Story behind Theseus & Hippolyta Selection of Pyramus & Thisbe Tale of Cupid Serpent in Hermia’s Dream
