Presentation transcript:

Find a seat at the tables, please! Please take out your tan packet and something to write with! (you don’t need to write down the learning target) Learning Target: Explain “hypothesis” in context of this assignment, prepare materials for note-taking stage 1/30/14 “Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing.” Wernher von Braun

Agenda 1/31/14 Review Research Log Topic Proposal “how-to” Explain “hypothesis” in context Securing sources Next step: note-taking and evaluating sources Homework: complete work for your topic proposal conference by the end of the day Tuesday! (Mrs. N is available regular library hours, too!)

Research Log By the time you wrap up this section, make sure you have a narrowed topic

Topic Proposal Check out the example on the blog BEFORE asking to be checked off to make sure you have the idea of the expectation Hypothesis: NOT “I will find answers to my questions” But, what ARE the actual answers you will find?

Are you “securing your sources?” Make sure you have a PERMALINK Download it as a pdf whenever possible…better than cut and pasting! Articles do seem to mysteriously disappear when you need them…save them!

Next step: note-taking Woo hoo, no huge list of works consulted yet! Focus here is on quality, not quantity! Both with sources chosen, and notes taken…don’t waste your time! To get the form, go to my blog, download it, and SAVE AS each time you add a new source (Title it something relevant, like the author’s last name?) MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT SAVING ON TOP OF YOUR NOTES WHEN YOU CREATE A NEW ONE!! Remember, you only need to show me six sources, but it’s likely you will need more than six sources to really understand your topic
