Bishop Justus Church of England School Morning Worship Joy 9th January 2019 Bishop Justus Church of England School

Let the light of Christ shine in our lives Gather The Lord be with you And also with you Let the light of Christ shine in our lives

Receive For you shall go out in joy, and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. From the book of Isaiah, chapter 55, verse 12

Engage The underlying worship theme for this term is ‘Joy’. It is one aspect of the ‘Fruit of the Spirit’ that Paul says that we will have with the Spirit of God in our lives (Galatians 5:22-23). Today’s bible verse comes from a passage where the writer reminds the people that God has made a covenant (a binding promise) with them and that the people need to follow the ways of God and they will find joy and peace.

Engage Some discussion ideas … If you are feeling down – what brings you joy? Do you think that a person can be joyful all the time? Why? Does joy mean being happy or something else – what do you think?

Respond Amen Thank you God for your promise that you will be with us. In difficult times and in good times may we have joy. Amen

Go out into the world with the light of Christ Let us bless the Lord Thanks be to God Go out into the world with the light of Christ
