United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Advanced Leader Course Leader Core Competencies A216 Army Maintenance Program

Lesson Scope At the end of this lesson learners will… apply unit maintenance programs to ensure they achieve and sustain the Army maintenance standard for assigned and attached equipment.

Learning Objectives ELO: 400-ALC-A216 Action: Examine the Army’s Maintenance Program at the Squad Level Condition: As a learner and leader attending the ALC-LCC, using an organizational-level leadership perspective in notional tactical and operational environments, given references, practical exercises and classroom discussions. Principles of Maintenance Commanders are responsible for establishing a command climate that ensures all assigned equipment is maintained in accordance with appropriate TMs and AR 750-1 Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) are the foundation of materiel readiness. Commanders are responsible for providing resources, assigning responsibility, and training their Soldiers to achieve maintenance standards Expeditious return of non-mission capable equipment back to operational status Field level maintenance forward/sustainment level maintenance at echelons above Brigade Commanders are responsible for the readiness and safety of equipment

Key Personnel and Duties PMCS Key Personnel and Duties Platoon Sergeant/Platoon Leader Operator/Crew Commander/1SG Squad Leader/Section Chief/Team Chief Unit Maintenance Officer/NCO Who is responsible for PMCS? Everyone! Unit and individual discipline is critical for a quality PMCS program!

Practical Exercise Soon after leaving the release point, the driver noticed an unusual vibration. The vehicle’s front wheel had began to come off. Review the DA Form 5988-E to see if it had been completed correctly and the deficiency was identified prior to this incident.
