Leaders Perspective on Enterprise and Entrepreneurial Education Dublin Castle Conference Centre 3 rd April 2012 Padraig OConnor Co-Head IUEF UCD Undergraduate Eoin Callaghan Co-Head IUEF UCD Undergraduate

What is the Irish University Entrepreneurship Forum?

We are… …a student run initiative …fostering a culture of entrepreneurship in Irish universities …developing a network of 3 rd level entrepreneurs … connecting these students with the business community

Our Founders Kevin Glynn Business & Law, UCD Michael Magee Economics & Finance, UCD

History December 2011Michael & Kevin visit New York TV show sparks discussion of a business forum January 2012Back in Dublin the idea is developed Team formed Brand developed IUEF.ie went live Company recruitment Sponsorship February 2012 March 2012Selected 8 companies Accenture workshop Finalised our inaugural event

Initial Concept The Forum will showcase young entrepreneurial talent and facilitate discussion surrounding new ideas, potential partnerships and fresh capital

Our Sponsors

The Event Our first event took place last Thursday in Dublin 8 Student run companies presented their ventures to a panel of 24 business leaders Questions and Answers were allowed after 4 companies presented Networking took place afterwards to exchange details for further discussion Over 120 people attended the event

The Companies Our 8 companies came from all over the country, we had applications from every University on the island 25 start-ups applied for the event The companies ranged from tech start-ups to sports nutrition holdings and from tinnitus treatment to pipeline cutting mechanisms Each company presented for 5 minutes to showcase their idea to a panel of select business leaders

Going forward…2013 Sustainability Forge stronger link between start-ups and business leaders with practical and sustainable mentorship schemes Formal follow up sessions - continued dialogue between start- ups and potential investors/supporters Establish long lasting relationships with agencies/organisations Expansion More university/IT reps - Greater academic input Include in calendar of all Entrepreneurial Societies Develop network of student entrepreneurs 2 years time - Bi-Annual forum with possibility of dividing businesses by sector - more specific forums

Future All inclusive national event Extend our reach to all academic institutions on the island Emulate UK student entrepreneur network Promote innovation and entrepreneurship among students by uniting organisations – give voice to young entrepreneurs Become THE focal-point for student entrepreneurship One of the hardest parts of working on a start-up is finding people who are interested in the same problems that you are. The IUEF is a great idea for bringing like-minded people together. JC

To do this we need… …Your continued support and endorsement … Enhanced networks between entrepreneurs and prospective mentors …Additional resources and exposure…Continued promotion and sponsorship

Thank you
