Welcome! August 25th, 2017 Friday Do Now Get out your weekly Bell Ringer sheet and begin working on Friday’s assignment. Once the bell rings, you will have five minutes to find and label the examples of figurative language. Remember: Do Now's are INDEPENDENT and QUIET exercises. Thank you 

I held his hand and hoped that he knew I was there. © Presto Plans Read the paragraph below and find examples of metaphor, simile, onomatopoeia, personification, oxymoron and/or alliteration. Like a detective, I searched the nursing home corridors until I saw him in a wheelchair by the open window. His eyes were pools of blue staring out at the first rays of sunshine tiptoeing through the garden. I brushed my fingers through his snow white hair and kissed his forehead. “Hi, Grandpa,” I said. There was a deafening silence as there was every morning. Time ticked by as I talked to him and told him about my week. It was a one-sided conversation. I often wished we had spoken more before he had poor health. I held his hand and hoped that he knew I was there.

Chapter 7 Quizzer Tear a piece of paper in half and give one half to a partner. At the top of your half sheet, you need: Your name The date Class/Block Assignment Title (For today, it’s “Chapter 7 Quizzer”)

Chapter 7 Quizzer: Block 1/2 Among the different items that Jem and Scout find in the tree’s knot hole is a medal. This medal was once a prize for winning what?

Chapter 7 Quizzer: Block 5/6 Which character is unable to chew gum?

To Kill a Mockingbird: Chapter 8 Now, let’s read! I’m going to read Chapter Four to the class. As I do so, make sure you’re paying attention. Feel free to take notes and/or doodle – whatever it is you need to do to make sure you process the story. 

TKAM: Chapter 8-9 For the rest of class, you have three jobs: Finish the Chapter 8 study questions. Make sure you use the same page as the Chapter 7 questions – they’re part of the same assignment. Begin your homework: Read Chapter 9 on your own, with a group, or with a partner. Continue your homework: Complete the Chapter 9 Study Questions individually. Don’t forget to get a new sheet of paper for these questions with a new header. The assignment title is “TKAM: Chapter 9-10”
