September 4, 2018 L.6.1.3 Cells and organelles
Tuesday,September 4, 2018 INB 34-35 Top of INB Page 34 - BW: Read page 52 in your textbook and then answer: Why is the cell membrane like the defensive line on a football team? (Leave space for tomorrow’s bell work also, we are using the same pages on wednesday.) INB Page 35 - CW: All About Cells Notes, Day 1 of guided notes - Tape your first page of notes in to your notebook on INB page 35 so that you can write on both sides. Leave space behind it because there will be another one on this same page tomorrow. Fill in the guided notes as we discuss in class. Bottom of INB Page 34 - HW: What are cell membranes made of? (Text page 52, remember to leave space for tomorrow’s homework question.)
Wednesday, September 5, 2018 INB 34-35 continued Top of INB Page 34 (under yesterday’s bellwork) - BW: Read textbook page 53 to answer: Why are cilia called cell appendages? INB Page 35 - CW: All About Cells Day 2 of guided notes. Tape down the center behind yesterday’s page of guided notes. Fill in as we discuss in class. Bottom of INB Page 34 HW: What is the purpose of cilia (txt page 53)
Thursday, September 6, 2018 INB 36-37 Top of INB Page 36 - BW: Read page 55 in your textbook to answer: What is the nuclear envelope? INB page 37 CW: Amoeba Sisters Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes - write in the notes about different types of cells from the next slide. Bottom of INB page 36 HW: How would you describe the nucleus of a cell? (txt 55) Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pxujitlv8wc Video Recap worksheet: https://www.amoebasisters.com/uploads/2/1/9/0/21902384/video_recap_of_prokar yotes_and_eukaryotes_by_amoeba_sisters.pdf
Amoeba Sisters: Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes Prokaryotes can be bacteria or archaea and are unicellular. Antibiotics target bacteria which are prokaryotes. Eukaryotes are unicellular or multicellular and can be animal, plant, protist, or fungi. Both prokaryotes and eukaryotes have: DNA, cytoplasm, cell membranes, ribosomes to make proteins. Most prokaryotes have cell walls like plant and fungal cells. Eukaryotic cells are larger and more complex than prokaryotic cells. Pro=No: No Nucleus or membrane bound organelles. Eu=Do: They do have a nucleus and organelles. ALL CELLS are either prokaryotic or eukaryotic.
Friday, September 7, 2018 INB 38-39 Top of INB Page 38 BW: Read page 56 in your textbook to answer: How can you contrast smooth ER and rough ER? INB Page 39 CW: Organelles and Cell Diagrams - Glue in the list of organelles and tape the cell diagrams down the middle so that you can label the cell parts on both sides. Fill in the blanks on the organelles list and complete the labels on both the animal and plant cell diagrams. Bottom of INB Page 38 HW: Why are the functions of both smooth and rough ER essential to a cell? (txt 56)
