DEAN FIELD PARENTS’ MEETING Trip dates: Wednesday 11th April – Friday 13th April 2018 Aim: To tell you what the children and teachers do at Dean Field. To tell you what you need to do before we go.

Aims of Dean Field: To complete outdoor and adventurous activities To promote team work To challenge themselves To live away from home for 2 nights! To have lots of fun and to do things they have never done before

The Dean Field Studies Centre Run by Ian and Dominic Approved centre run by Bristol Council Qualified instructors 4 adults from school to accompany the class: Miss. Kirkpatrick , Mr. Purkiss/Mr. Jackson, Miss. Farrar and Ms. Cooper Insurance – school records visit with LA insurance section and PTA provides personal accident cover

The centre 4 floors – girls and boys sleep on different floors – all supervised Children are put in rooms of 3, 4 or 6 chosen before they go Dining room is on lower floor – food is very good! There is a common room, games room, drying room and lots of showers

Arriving at school on the first morning- 7.45am Wear old clothes and wellies/old trainers that can get muddy Wear a coat Children DO NOT need a packed lunch or a rucksack; Children WILL need a water bottle that they can carry and keep with them on the coach – PLEASE NAME No sweets allowed - have a good breakfast. Take travel tablets at breakfast at home ARRIVE 7.45- go straight into hall Give medicine to group leader and collect wrist band to wear whilst away (school phone number) Suitcases either on coach before or carry to coach when we go

Wednesday 11th Itinerary Arrive at school at 7.45am, to leave on coach ASAP Arrive at Dean Field at 9:30am Meet leaders/introduction/kit sorting Problem solving activity (whole class) Lunch – 1pm 1st activity (in groups) Dinner – 5pm Evening activity Bedtime drink and story Bedtime (about 9.00pm but Teachers decide!)

Group Activities Day-time activities – all run by instructors High rope activities – on centre site (Jacob’s ladder, zip wire, leap of faith) Canoeing – by mini bus to local lake Archery and Tunnelling – on centre site Rock climbing and abseiling – on centre site Evening activities at the centre Woodland walk – instructor led Stream study - teacher led

Friday 13th Itinerary Complete last activity at Dean Field (no canoeing) 12.30pm lunch 1.30pm leave for ten-pin bowling centre in Longwell Green 2.30 pm – bowling Arrive back at school approximately 4.15-4.30 pm (Friday traffic!) School will text parents with approx. arrival time

Rules at Deanfield…. Remember the school rules – they still apply Follow all instructions the first time – teachers or instructors No running in the centre Respect their own and other people’s property No electrical equipment to be taken (including mobile phones and iPods and electronic games – water!) Bedrooms must be kept clean and tidy and no eating is allowed in the bedrooms ROOM POINTS given for behaviour, tidiness, helpfulness, and doing their best on an activity Bedtimes are decided by the teachers Telephones are for staff and emergency use only

Clothing List – EVERYTHING NAMED PLEASE! You will need: Tracksuit trousers or leggings x4 T-shirts x4 Sweatshirts/fleeces or jumpers x4 Trainers and shoes– old ones preferably x2, and some shoes/clothes to keep dry for wearing home on the Friday Indoor shoes or slippers with hard soles Nightclothes – warm ones! Towel Toiletries (no aerosols) and sun cream? Lots and lots of spare underwear/socks Warm coat/anorak Waterproof and trousers (available from centre) Wellies (available from centre) Teddy/ book

Consent Forms Please fill in both the school consent form and Dean Field consent form. These tell us about ALL dietary needs, medical needs and personal needs. If it is not on the form then no preparations will have been made… Medicines – to be named with dosage written on form and bottle and given to your ‘ADULT group leader’ on Wednesday morning. This includes all prescribed and non prescribed medicine, including travel tablets Please inform us of any changes to details with as much notice as possible PLEASE GIVE FORMS BACK BY MONDAY 12TH MARCH

To do list... £4 in change for tuck shop in a named purse or wallet. This will stay with the child and be their responsibility. Max spend= £2 per evening A LABELLED disposable camera only. (Bathwick adults take lots of photos) Practise making a bed, hanging up wet clothes, clearing and cleaning a table after a meal and laying out cutlery, bowls and cups for breakfast Choose a book to read Please label all clothes if you want to see them again! Write and send a letter to your child
