Remember: The FLI is what you decide it is, use what you feel is necessary and adapt it to your community. 01 Some districts start with an hour, introduce the FLI, other districts do the whole program 02 Do the small numbers but do high quality, roll out the red carpet for your parents, they will appreciate being heard. 03

Living in Two Worlds: Cultural & Generational Perspectives - “Eye-opener” lesson for parents/educators - Discusses drug and alcohol abuse, gang membership, teenage pregnancy, teenage depression, teenage suicide, and other relevant issues. - Your children will tell you what you don’t want to hear, it’s not about being right all the time - Three techniques for effective communication: Help me understand…. Improving Family and School Relationships: Partners for Success Parents are the primary teachers of their children Parents care about their children’s education Parents and teachers are the best partners for their children’s success Teachers benefit from the leadership of parents Parent involvement is critical to their children’s school success
Home: Coping Strategies for Success Listing family goals help us understand why we are not reaching them. Families recover from difficult situations when they feel a “togetherness”, each member is important, community support, a sense of control Group Activity
Activity #3 Groups of six Five different sized balls Each ball represents a different “life situation” 1. kids 2. job 3. school 4. partner 5. something big (?) Group starts out tossing one ball to each other, then add another ball, and then another to show how hectic life can get and why we need a support team and realize we can’t and shouldn’t be expected to do everything on our own.
