Presentation transcript:

TEACHER NOTES below Materials per student: sheet of copy paper, scissors, ruler, colored pencils (optional) Super-simple teacher notes: Have students do everything shown on the screen! This graphic organizer is meant to be a general introduction to the scientific method, and not an exhaustive way to convey everything possible about the scientific method. Still, it’s very useful as you introduce how science is supposed to work at the beginning of the school year, or as you move into the season of science fair. Only 2 facts per door are listed here, but feel free to add and require more for your students if you like. You can also change any/all text here to suit your needs. See notes area on later slides for more details.

Then cut lines (top sheet only!) What are some scientific methods? (every 4 cm) Then cut lines (top sheet only!)

What are some scientific methods? Define the Problem

What are some scientific methods? a specific question to answer needs to be well-defined

Form the Hypothesis & Make Predictions What are some scientific methods? Define the Problem Form the Hypothesis & Make Predictions

What are some scientific methods? a measureable guess done before any testing is begun Define the Problem

What are some scientific methods? Interpret Data & Analyze Information Collect & Organize Data Define the Problem Form the Hypothesis & Make Predictions Plan the Investigation Indentify the Variables Defend Conclusions What I wrote inside my other doors: Plan the investigation: make sure you’re testing the hypothesis; decide what materials are required Identify the variables: since this is a controlled experiment, identify all variables that can affect results; decide which one variable should change (independent) Collect and organize data: as you do the experiment, collect all data; measurements and numbers can be organized in tables and graphs Interpret data and analyze information: what patterns are there in your data?; let the data, not your own bias, cause your analysis Defend conclusions: do your results support your original hypothesis?; share your results with others Now you finish the rest- 2 key facts per door
