Come up with your own Disciplining Children- Routine PROCEDURE Disciplining Children Disciplining Children

Disciplining Children Why? Why do you discipline? To teach obedience to authority and ultimately to God Hebrews 13:17 “Obey your leaders and submit to their authority” Dr. Beka Horton To instill in children a Christ-like character Hebrews 12:11 “All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.” Disciplining Children

Disciplining Children How do you discipline? Focusing on the HEART “For out of the heart flow…” With DEDICATION and LOVE The children are not yours, they are God’s Disciplining Children

Discipline… your children Have 3 simple rules Ask to speak Ask to move Eyes on the teacher Add other rules as necessary Attitude Realize God gave you authority; use it! You are the victor Have integrity: Say what you mean and mean what you say *Vacuum Job* Disciplining Children

Discipline… your children “Nip the problem in the bud” Disciplining Children The Key is consistency Never ignore the smallest disruption

Discipline… enforcement The “teacher look” Quiet down Stand by student (remove object if needed) Say their name/ask question Show rule number Tell child to stand/ move seats Disciplining Children

Discipline… enforcement Tell child to stand outside (in your view): Have firm talk with child Take away privileges; match behavior to punishment * example* Talk with parents/ keep after class Ask administration for help Disciplining Children

Disciplining Children Discipline Don’ts Never say “hush, shush or shut up” Never yell or raise your voice Never say “ok” or “alright” Never snap fingers or stomp your feet Don’t show disgust Don’t nag (because you chose to…) Disciplining Children

Disciplining Children Discipline Don’ts Don’t rely on administration or other teachers Don’t threaten a child Hands off! Don’t bring up the past Don’t compare to their family Don’t take it personally Disciplining Children

To sum it up; Disciplining yourself Prepare for the lesson Disciplining children 1. Have procedures/routines 2. Have simple rules you enforce 3. Do’s and Don’ts

“Well done good and faithful servant…” Teaching it hard but it is worth it to hear; “Well done good and faithful servant…”
