Society Leaders are chosen by god and know all Peasants are very religious Believing that life would be better in the afterlife if they served god gave them purpose No room to move up in life

Why need protection? Many different groups were gaining power Vikings, Mongals, Muslims, Magyars

Feudalism System Meant to protect peasants and others from invading people Land controlled by a hierarchal system Draw:

Feudalism Pyramid Kings/Monarchs: LordsNobles: Own all the land (fiefdom) and then distribute it to nobles. God gave them the right to rule LordsNobles: Given lands by kings, responsible for people below them in the pyramid Gave land to Knights Took crops/products from peasants as payment Today’s version of a landlord

Feudalism Pyramid (cont.) Knights Hired by Lords to protect kingdom Their version of a police force Given land in exchange for their service Peasants/ Serfs Worked the land in exchange for protection Grew crops, livestock, made products, and gave all to their lords for rent
