Figure 1 Maternal and Infant Risk Index (MIRI) developed by the staff of the Maternal and Infant Care Project of Erie County, New York. The number to the left of each applicable item is circled and that item is underlined. Then the circled scores are totaled and averaged. An average score of 0-1 is classed as low risk and receives routine management. A score of 2 indicates a medium risk and is observed closely, with consultations as needed. A score of 3 or higher indicates a high-risk patient in need of ancillary tests and very close observation by physician and others. (Social factors [VIII, second page] are scored by writing the score, as determined by the guide at lower left, beside the applicable factor.)
