What is Assessment? Della – open question for the attendees to answer

Assessment - An on-going process designed to monitor and improve student learning. WASC Assessment Leadership Academy, 2012 “Assessment allows program faculty and administrators to reflect on what they intend to accomplish and organize and plan activities and resources to better achieve those end results, thus demonstrating more accountability for what they are trying to accomplish.” Marilee J. Bresciani Della

Assessment Cycle (or Loop) Jan

Assessment should be systematic, not just “grabbing numbers from the sky”. We capture lots of data every day, but the goal for assessment is to be clear about what you want to measure and then create a plan for capturing useful information about student learning.

Why do we need to do course, program, and support area assessment? Assessment provides feedback to the instructors and is used to improve student learning Assessment provides feedback to students regarding where they need to focus their attention Assessment is used to improve curriculum and program offerings Assessment is necessary for ACCJC accreditation and contract renewals/promotion dossiers.
