Unit 3 – Museum Exhibit and Review of Plaque/Essay Citations

BINDER CHECK! Be ready for next period! Turn in your binders by 2:10 pm on Thursday 1/31. If you have everything done you can get an 8 for each standard. You need to have the Table of Contents complete and all assignment in chronological order from first to last starting after the Table of Contents. See lesson on 1/28 or 1/29 for list of assignments.

REQUIREMENTS for the EXHIBIT What can it be? 1. Poster - Diarama – Mock-up – Create a 3-D representation of your topic and its details. 3. Live Action - Dress Up and Act Like Someone from your Topic – become a part of your topic - You will need to have items to show the people who talk to you – you will need to be able to explain your topic in about 2 minutes Combination of the three above – you can combine parts of the three options above for your exhibit. SEE SCORING GUIDE BELOW - Your exhibit is about bringing your event or topic to life. You are focusing on the CD’s from your research and plaque. You do not need to include CM’s in the exhibit – they will be on your plaque and you can speak them! C15 – Structures Information in Appropriate Format Exhibit *Exhibit is highly organized, precise and has at least 4 highly detailed and clearly marked CD's from the research. *Exhibit includes color. *Exhibit shows consistent signs of sincere care and effort. *Exhibit is organized and has at least 4 accurate and marked CD's from the research. *Exhibit includes some color. *Exhibit shows some signs of care and effort. *Exhibit is somewhat organized with 4 marked CD's from research. *Exhibit includes 4 marked CD's from research. *Exhibit includes little or no color. *Exhibit shows few signs of care and effort. 2 – Exhibit seem disorganized, has some CD's but they are not clearly marked. No color. Exhibit is sloppy or partially complete.   1 – Not enough work completed to be assessed.

Bibliography vs. Citation It is easy to get a Bibliography confused with a Citation. Your bibliography is a list of all the sources you used in an essay. This comes at the end of the essay. There is a special format you should use and it is the MLA format for the bibliography. You can go to CitationMachine or EasyBib to get the proper citation. Sometimes those websites do not get the form correct, so make sure you double check the rules for MLA formatting at the following website: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/

Citation or Citing a Source Whenever you use information (CD’s or CM’s) from your notes in your writing, you need to let the reader know which source your information is coming from – this is a citation. If you do not cite your sources, that counts as plagiarism, which is cheating. When you do not cite your sources, you are acting as if you already knew the information before your researched it, which is not accurate. If you do not cite your sources, you will receive a ‘1’.

Parenthetical Citation Putting your citations in parentheses The easiest way to cite your sources is as follows. If your source has an author, then use the author’s last name in your citation, like this: In the Battle of Midway, there were over 1,000 planes that were shot down by the Japanese navy, leading to 10,000 deaths (Quesinberry). If your source does not have an author, then pick a couple of key words from the title of the source and use those in your parenthetical citation. Let’s say the article or website was called, “Fighter Planes over Midway”. Your sentence would look like this: In the Battle of Midway there were over 1,000 planes that were shot down by the Japanese navy, leading to 10,000 deaths (Fighter Planes).

PRIMARY vs. SECONDARY SOURCE On your bibliography, please label your sources as either primary or secondary sources. A primary source is a source from the time period you are studying. It is often a newspaper, journal, photo or other document produced during the event. A secondary source is a source that is produced after the event and usually includes information from primary sources as part of its content. These are often textbooks, general information websites, scholarly articles and other texts that scan a period of history.

Label sources as primary or secondary!! REMEMBER! You need to have a citation for every CD or CM that you have taken from a source. Follow the format I provided earlier. You need to have a bibliography of all the sources you used in your essay. You do not need to list a source from your research if you did not use it in your essay. Label sources as primary or secondary!!
