Gather The Lord be with you And also with you

The Bishop Justus Virtues As part of being able to talk about our Bishop Justus community, this term’s worship will focus on our six virtues, which are an important part of who we are. This week we will explore the virtue of courage.

The Bishop Justus Virtues Faith Hope Love Wisdom Courage Kindness

Receive (today’s Bible reading) …because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he [Jesus] spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Mark, Chapter 6, verse 50 New International Version (NIV)

Explore The virtue of courage In the world we are called to be the voice of truth. This means we need to be courageous and stand up for the rights of all. Without courage, change doesn’t happen, and each of us are called to be courageous in our own lives and in developing the world around us. For discussion: What does ‘courage’ mean to you?

Explore During worship this week, please explore the virtue of courage. Here are some ideas for discussions to help you understand the importance of courage to our community. You might want to make a display or poster on your tutor group notice board. Research a religious figure such as Martin Luther King, who was courageous in living out their religious faith. Do leaders need to be courageous? Should everyone be courageous? What do we need to be courageous about? As the Bishop Justus community, how can we show courage? (your tutor could pass ideas to your learning director or the Chaplain)

Respond (this week’s prayer) Heavenly Father, Help us and our nation’s and world leaders to find the courage to stand up for what is right and to do what is right, even if others do not. Amen

Go   Let us bless the Lord Thanks be to God
